Normal Function of the Skeletal, Nervous, and Muscular System of a Football Player

Essay Instructions:

Analyze the structure and function of the human muscular, skeletal, and integumentary systems.
The scenario refers to a football player kicking a field goal.
Explain the normal function of the skeletal, nervous, and muscular system for a football player kicking a field goal.
Explain the normal functions of the skeletal, nervous, and muscular systems for the individual in the given scenario by doing the following:
1. Explain the basic process of movement for the musculoskeletal system.
2. Explain the basic process of the central and peripheral nervous systems.
Acknowledge sources, using in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.
Responses are organized and focus on the main ideas presented in the assessment. Word choice is pertinent and clearly conveys the intended meaning to the audience. Responses reflect attention to detail. Mechanics, usage, and grammar promote understanding and readability.
The explanation contains the basic process of movement for the musculoskeletal system in the given scenario, including gross skeletal structures involved and an accurate description of their normal function. The explanation contains the basic process of the nervous system in the given scenario, including the gross central and peripheral structures involved and an accurate description of their normal operation.
The submission includes in-text citations for sources that are properly quoted, paraphrased, or summarized and a reference list that accurately identifies the author, date, title, and source location as available.

Normal Function of the Skeletal, Nervous, and Muscular System
Musculoskeletal System
The musculoskeletal system is the organ system that enables humans to move. Aside from movement, it also influences the human body’s stability, form, and support. The musculoskeletal system is composed of the skeletal muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, and joints.
In the specific scenario of a football player kicking a field goal, these structures help perform a forceful forward swing. The iliopsoas and the rectus femoris (part of the quadriceps muscle) act as hip flexors. The rectus femoris, a two-jointed muscle, acts as a hip flexor and a knee extensor along with the vastus medialis that concentrically contracts to perform the knee extension component of kicking a field goal. In contrast, the hamstrings muscle eccentrically controls the movement of the hip and knee. The leg muscles are the tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius, and soleus. The tibialis anterior is responsible for the concentric dorsiflexion of the ankle, and the gastrocsoleus complex is responsible for the eccentric contraction of the movement (Hajlotfalian et al., 2019). The bone structures involved in the hip, thigh, leg, and ankle are the pelvis, femur, tibia, fibula, and talus. The hip joint (acetabulofemoral joint), knee joint (tibiofemoral joint), and ankle joint (talocrural joint) are used when kicking a ball.
The different components of the musculoskeletal system have varying functions. The bones serve as the attachment of the muscles, supporting it as it contracts and relaxes to act. This can be likened to a lever, while joints serve as a fulcrum when the extremity performs the movement. The muscles contract, either concentrically or eccentrically, to move and act. The ligaments are fibrous connective tissues that connect and support bone to bone structures, while the tendons are responsible for connecting muscle to bone ...
