The proposed mixed- methods research question is: Can oral hygiene education in postnatal clinics tackle child tooth decay? A mixed-methods study with postnatal mothers and nurses in Canada. The target population includes mothers attending postnatal clinics, children under the age of five being taken to these clinics, and the primary caregivers in these clinics (majorly nurses, but other health caregivers).
Quantitative analysis is needed to determine the number of mothers with knowledge on dental hygiene and tooth decay in children. It will also be used to determine the number of nurses who offer oral hygiene to mothers visiting postnatal clinics and those who see the importance of this medical education. Qualitative analysis is needed to know the level of understanding of the mothers involved in the study. It will also be used to outline the content of the medical education given by the nurses to their clients.
