Hung-Ju Chen in his Journal of Population Economics, Vol. 19, No. 4 (Oct., 2006), pp. 725-748 suggests that for many decades, people globally have developed the need of having international migrations to various countries of their choice with the aim of bettering their lives which encompasses improving their living standards through getting good jobs, taking their children to good schools elsewhere and many other aims not knowing that there arises a disadvantage due to those migrations. In the short term, richer countries restrict migration of workers since they impute their rights but again in the long run, the rich and poor countries encourages the flow of people as it helps them meet their standards. A report by the OECD group (2008 and 2009) suggests that the majority of the migrants live in richer countries such as North America, US and Germany and since the 1990’s, the female migrants have grown mostly for domestic services.
Hung has therefore presented reasons which support his argument of people migrating to various countries. To start with people move due to demand for and supply and labor. The migrant workers are motivated by lack of opportunities at home and belief that they can achieve the best in foreign countries. Many migrant workers do not utilize fully their potential skills at home countries since there are very little job vacancies which arise, often known as “3D”
Secondly they consider the migrant experience. Migrant workers consider it advantageous in that they improve their fortunes elsewhere in terms of health and education for their children. At their respective home countries, there is a non cuprous recruitment, there is rampant withholding of wages, they are confiscated on their identities and they are denied of reasonable time to rest and this implies that they are oppressed in terms of work. This is not practiced in the Middle East since workers are given maximum attention to their human rights and the labor conditions are favorable thus promoting to workers experience.
Another reason why people opt to move is the migrant right which is well defined in other foreign countries than in the home countries. In the foreign nations, the right to work does not equalize with access to full benefits of all citizens and their aim is to have consistency in living and working conditions as per the principles of the international human rights law achieved in 1990.
