Compose a persuasive essay response (minimum 500 words, maximum 600 words) that provides and supports your opinion (argument, claim) specifically about the light green highlighted sections of the article.
Also provide your opinion about the author’s contention that “doing your job well often means suppressing yourself.”
Read “A Word about the Thesis” in the course “Handouts” section. The thesis for Formal Essay 1 must be underlined as the last sentence in the introductory paragraph of the essay.
In the essay, provide at least two direct quotations, at least one by the author and one direct quotation by the author of a second online source is required. Both quotations must be at least two complete lines of text.
The total number of lines of text for direct quotations (accumulative) for the entire essay may not exceed eight. Make sure that the text of your essay includes an in-text citation for both quotations.
CAUTION: Quotations should never be included in the introductory paragraph or the concluding paragraph of an essay.
In the Works Cited section of your essay, use and cite the Brooks online source and the other online source. Your other online source must have an author (first name, last name), and it must have a full date (day, month, year). 
Begin the Works Cited section on the page following the last page of your essay. The page must be titled Works Cited centered at the top of the page, followed by the citations.
The Works Cited page must be numbered. For example, if the last page of the text of your essay is p. 2, then the Works Cited page will begin on p. 3. The Works Cited page is not a separate document, but it is not part of the word count requirement.
Paragraph divisions provide transition, clarity, and organization to an essay. The essay must include a minimum of five, well-developed paragraphs: introductory paragraph that includes the thesis, three supporting paragraphs (minimum), and a concluding paragraph.
Paragraph development: In journalistic and some other styles of writing, a paragraph can be just about anything that the writer composes as long as it effectively holds the reader’s attention and sells. However, a paragraph in EH 1301 and EH 1302 must be more structured, consisting of a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. Because this is an online course, the sources for formal essays must be online and no more than five years old unless provided by the instructor. The instructor must have unfettered access to all online sources throughout the course. Ask the instructor about exceptions.
Essays in which a large part is quoted material are not acceptable. I want your writing based on your research.
For assignments in this course involving research, avoid using sources that have already done the research for you. These sources include encyclopedias, quotation Websites, Yahoo Answers, Ask.com, About.com, Wikipedia and other Wiki sources, social publications such as People Magazine, Jet Magazine, other social and “Give-Me-an-Answer” Websites, and Weblogs (blogs). Instead, do some serious research. Dictionaries, The Holy Bible, and other reference sources may be used only as tertiary sources in connection with other credible published online sources less than five years old. Do not define or use the dictionary as a source unless you are providing an unusual definition of a word. Assume that your audience possesses a vocabulary. Since this is not a course in law, do not use the JSL databases.Neither Blackboard nor Google Drive may ever be cited as a source.

All college graduates from various institutions across the United States approach the real world with hopes of achieving the American dream. Unfortunately, a significant number of Americans struggle to accomplish their goals. Besides, David Brooks points out that most successful youths look outside and find a problem, which defines their entire lives (Brooks, 2011). Well, in my view, I believe he is right. Although a few of them follow their passion and become successful, most students nowadays find themselves doing jobs they do not love, paving career paths they never had in mind.
Career Paths for Most of the Successful Young Adults
The world today is more competitive than never before, and the idea of focusing only on one's passion for a successful life may not be the right choice. Young adults who want to stick to their passion have their minds already made up and will only do what they love. Subsequently, this has resulted in many missing out on a lot of opportunities in life. For this reason, most of the students nowadays tend to focus on the prevailing circumstances in their respective societies when choosing a career path or perhaps lead a successful life in the future. They do not make it about themselves all the time. Instead, they look outside, and when they discover a specific issue, it motivates them to take whatever path they choose in life, even when it is not their passion.
For instance, Brooks noted, "A relative suffers from Alzheimer's, and a young woman feels called to help cure the disease. A young man works under a miserable boss and must develop management skills so his department can function” (Brooks, 2011). In this case, the young woman would be motivated to become a doctor while the man could become a project manager.
