Research Driven Critique: Informing Public about Moon and its Exploration
The Canadian Space Agency of the Government of Canada published an August 31, 2021 article on its website, The Moon, Features, and Exploration, detailing the origin and features of the moon and humankind’s efforts to explore the moon. The purpose of the article is to educate the general audience of all ages about the origin and features of the moon, the exploration of the moon, and Canada’s contribution to the exploration of the moon. Firstly, the article traces the origin of the moon to earth’s collision with a Mars-sized asteroid, 4.5 years ago. Next, the article reports that many countries have put satellites to orbit the moon or sent rovers to study the moon's surface since 1972. Finally, the article notes that Canada is set to be a part of the Artemis program, whose purpose is to establish a lunar station. The ideal audience for the article is individuals aged between 10 and 90 years with or without high education in science and technology given its educative nature. Interesting Facts about the Moon is an article by the Royal Museum Greenwich that present more information about the moon by providing ten unusual facts about the moon. Phases of the Moon Display Cutouts is a graphic published on the Twinkl website depicting pictures of the surface of the moon during the eight phases of the moon.
The Moon for Kids is a YouTube informational video that provides viewers with information that will enhance their understanding of the moon. The video supports the central theme of providing public information to elicit mass interest in moon and moon exploration, with the educative nature of the video enhanced by the use of logos, mainly in the forms of numbers and facts about the moon to provide the viewer with highly educative information about the moon. The narrator starts the video by pointing out that “The moon is the only satellite that rotates around our planet and it takes 28 days to completely go around the earth, but do we know what a satellite is?” (Royal Museums Greenwich, 2022). Evidently, as the most important satellite orbiting the earth, one should learn about the moon. The purpose of the video ...
