We will be rolling out the Hero Speeches starting next Tuesday.
Your presentation should be roughly between 5-7 minutes. The goal is to identify characteristics in your "Hero" that you admire and how those qualities have helped to shape your values and who you are as a person today.
Develop a good introduction and give good examples and details to support what you said in your introduction in the body of your speech. Then wrap it up with a good and memorable conclusion.
Ask - What is the main message I want my audience to remember and the WIIFM factor.
Remember that good speeches are always the result of doing good interviews, so remember to formulate some good questions and don't be shy about asking follow up questions and clarifying anything that may be unclear...right"
Tip ~ Always ask yourself what would be most interesting to you if you were in the audience! In other words...why should your audience care about what you have to say!
If your hero is someone from history or someone you cannot interview, be creative and look for other sources of background information such as articles, podcasts, on - air interviews, etc.

Introduction
“A hero and a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” This is what Barrack Obama portrayed even before becoming the 44th president of the United States of America. His involvement in community work in Chicago and desire to bring that change at the national level inspired many. Rather than feeling ashamed due to his African origin, he used that platform to express his ideas blatantly to both the whites and blacks. As a result, my hero possess great conviction, confidence, and the “we” rather than “I” attitude, which made it easy for him to mitigate the harsh political landscape.
Conviction
Obama’s conviction can be derived from his 2008 campaign slogan of “Change we can believe in.” This slogan became a buzz and was adopted across the United States by virtually every citizen (Abroms, 2014). He himself had a firm belief that if something is right and if you think you are on the right track then you can influence others too regardless of the obstacles you are facing. This was witnessed when he refused to recognize Iran Revolutionary Guard as terrorists but rather decided to pull United States military troops out of the country. This was a bizarre decision considering his predecessor had stressed the need to send more troops in Iran, Iraq, and Palestine. Personally, as a youth, this is the degree of conviction I want to be associated with. It drives self realization among the minor...
