There are a variety of flexible practices that allow employees to work when they are most productive without imposing on them the traditional work schedules. Some of the flexible workplace practices include flexi-time, job-share, part-time and working from home. Flexibility in the workplace allows employees to meet their other personal responsibilities, thereby striking a balance between work life and personal life.
Working from home allows employees to reduce the time spent commuting to work. This will give me time as an employee to spend more time with my family and attend to my personal needs. It will also allow me to effectively manage my work since I can do the assigned work when I am most productive. Working from home also gives me a sense of control over my working schedule. In addition, the change in the work environment is refreshing because I work in the comfort of my home. On the downside, working from home increases work-life conflict. This is because sometimes people around you might think that you don’t work and this usually affects relationships when you decline running errands for them because you have to work. On the other hand, working part-time or flexi-time reduces the pressure that is otherwise experienced at work because employees only work for a few hours. The flexibility of working part-time or at home means that I can take a break if I feel overwhelmed with work and there will be no one to reprimand me.
