Capitalism, as we know it today, is not an organic system that has blossomed into a beautiful thing because it is a superior economic system. This system has been heavily reliant upon government intervention during times of crisis to keep the system functional – by government we primarily mean White wealthy males. As people have tinkered with and impacted the system, race has been a focal point for centuries in the United States in terms of who this economy would benefit; and explicitly state who it would not benefit.


Reflecting on past legislation, social norms, and customs what can be done to build a more racially equitable economic system in today’s society and for future generations? Think of what needs to be done to achieve a more equal distribution of wealth in society overall, but especially across racial lines. Consider things like affirmative action, reparations, welfare, etc – and briefly describe what this would look like in contemporary society. Lastly, identify at least one obstacle that could or does hinder the possibility of a racially equal capitalist system in the United States.

Capitalism is an economic system where the factors of production are mostly controlled and managed by private entities. Despite its perception as a superior economic system, capitalism has not bored desired fruits. Many still experience adverse consequences associated with capitalism. During the financial crisis and recessions, private entities have not been able to cope with challenges. The government has had to provide rescue to capitalistic ventures. This paper is a reflection of the economic system from diverse perspectives, precisely the racial, economic dimension.
Capitalism has widened the gap between the poor and the rich. The poverty levels are at an all-time high, and inequity becomes the resultant outcome of capitalism. Capitalism is laced with racial undertones. There are instances where the elite white community and its associated organizations have misuses the non-whites in a bid to gain economic value. Affirmative actions have not helped either. Affirmative actions and policies have acted as springboard for racial capitalism (Leong, 2012).
Non-white racial identifies have been economically exploited, resulting in adverse consequences; this is because racial capitalism is pure commodification of race identity. Furthermore, racial capitalism can spur racial resentments (Leong, 2012). The concept of exploitation in capitalism cannot adequately explain the incorporation of racial oppression into this economic system. It can be argued that unfree and dependent labor make a significant contribution to capital; this capital base is expropriated rather than exploited. Furthermore, the political class and authorities are likely to view the exploitable community as appropriable subjects (Fraser, 2018). Racial capitalism can be reflected well if it can be examined from the lens of history. The post-colonial times presented a tendency for the establishment of racial between the West and the rest, making it a plurality of races. The known racial aspect seemed to have mutated in multiple ways that include the integration of the proletariat into a capitalistic system (Virdee, 2019).
