In this paper, I will talk about the National Archives. The purpose of the National Archives is to provide the community with easy and quick access to the historical information of the government. I have selected the Declaration of Independence. It is something on which the individuality and identity of Americans are based. Unlike other documents present in the National Archives, the Declaration of Independence is binding legally and seems to be more powerful. It urges people around the globe to fight for their rights, freedom, and equality.
In 1775, Thomas Jefferson was elected to the Continental Congress. He came up with the Declaration of Independence, which was signed in July, 1776 (Sayre, 2016). Then, Grotius, Samuel Pufendorf, and Locke came forward to shape Thomas Jefferson’s idea. When the Declaration of Independence was adopted, Great Britain and the Thirteen Colonies had started the battle, and relations between the mother country and the colonies were deteriorating. Later on, Parliament took some measures in order to increase revenues from the colonies like the Townshend Acts of 1767 and the Stamp Act of 1765. These acts were called compulsory and legitimate because Parliament thought that these would pave the ways for the colonies to pay their fair share of costs in order to stay in the British Empire.
