    Comparison contrast essay:  Julie & Julia film Name Institution Date   In the film Julie and Julia, the two main characters overcome difficulties as married women finding their way to be foodies and writers (Ephron et al., 2009). Julie was an unhappy woman working as a secretary and living in a cramped apartment in New York. Julia lived in Paris, struggling to learn a new language and promote her love of cooking (Ephron et al., 2009). Julie and Julia became connected when Julie picked up a Julia’s famous French cookbook, and started a blog that was successful. The main theme in the film is that both Julie and Julia have to overcome odds to succeed. This comparison contrast paper of the comedy-drama film Julie and Julia focus on their love for cooking, and triumphs as well known foodies. The film goes back and forth representing Julie’s life in the early 2000’s and Julia’s life post WWII Paris as she sought to learn more about cooking.  There are similarities between the lives of Julie and Julia in their journeys to be recognized for their cooking skills and love for cooking. They sought to do other things and as both of them were passionate about cooking and this is what connected and made them more famous. Julie and Julia had to try things on their own to be more successful and live a more fulfilling life and it is cooking that connected them. Cooking offered a way out of their monotonous uninspiring lives and their love of food offers an opportunity to connect with other people. Julie and Julia are both married and their husbands support their pursuits. Julie’s husband Eric was less supportive in the beginning, but later on encouraged her to focus more on writing a blog to improve her writing career and highlight her cooking experience. Paul, Julia’s husband encouraged her to pursue cooking and learn about French culinary skills. Cooking was liberating to both women, and they were ambitious that they would succeed having chosen to put more effort in cooking skills. Since the husbands are a source of encouragement this makes it easier for Julie and Julia to focus on their cocking experiences.   Julie was inspired to write about her journey of cooking using the recipes in Julia’s cookbook, and Julia was inspired by the need to try out new cooking recipes and methods (Ephron et al., 2009). This was a way to get meaning in her life, and just like Julia was zealous so was Julie when she sought to redefine herself.
