A Review of the Acculturation Experiences of International Students
In the article A Review of the Acculturation Experiences of International Students written by Smith and Khawaja in 2010, the authors explore or asses the acculturation experiences of international students. They discuss some of the acculturative stressors, changes, the buffering effect of social support, and the interventions to aid acculturation in international students. The conclusion they reach in regard to the acculturation stressors is that they can be mitigated by interventions which are divided into behavioral interventions, multicultural intervention whose main agenda would be to improve social ties, and support programs targeting Asian international students. This research is relevant to my research because it mentions the problem and goes ahead to provide the solution to the same. This research will be relevant to my research as it will draw on the “psychological adaptation of international students through support programs that target individual factor” as well as the use of multicultural interventions to improve social ties among the international students.
Loneliness and International Students: An Australian Study

The researchers conclude that the development of stronger bonds between the local and international students as well as helping international students remake their cultural maps are crucial to coping with loneliness. The ideas presented in this paper are relevant to my ideas because the researchers seem to support my notion that stronger social ties will indeed help international students fight loneliness. Additionally, what makes this paper relevant and useful for my own research is its use of raw data to draw conclusions. For example, students were asked in an interview whether they had ever experienced periods of loneliness. The article says that “a total of 130 students (65%) answered “Yes” to” this question. Secondly, the inclusion of the section titled Theorization of Loneliness which seeks to explain loneliness and its origin.

The researchers conclude that language is a precursor to transfer processes, it directly impacts people’s ability to transmit and receive knowledge. Additionally, language impacts the medium, feedback mechanism, and also impinges on the operative influences within the system. The relevance of this paper to my research lies in the fact that it se...
