Persuasive Letter: A Person Should have a High School Diploma to Get a Driver’s License
Hello, my name is Beverley Morgan, and I am a resident and a member of the state. I am writing regarding the proposed bill requiring a high school diploma before getting a driver’s license. I agree with the position that every aspiring driver should have a high school diploma before they are licensed to be a public or private driver. I base my argument on three reasons: an increase in immature driving cases and accidents from uneducated drivers; secondly, most young and sixteen-year-old drivers do not appreciate the value of life; and finally, they have no real reason to own a vehicle.
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (2021) notes that car accidents are the second highest cause of death for teenagers in the United States. The Centre established that teenagers aged 15-19 years had over $4.5 billion in medical costs from car crashes. Additionally, newly licensed 16-year-old drivers had a 1.5 times more car accident rate than older drivers. The causes of such accidents included distracted driving, not following driving instructions, intoxicated weekend and night driving, speeding, and inexperience. For this reason, we should implement a high school diploma requirement and regulation to curb road accidents.
Secondly, New York Daily News (2015) article found that the undereducated and poor were more likely to cause and die from car accidents. The study used a sample of accidents from the year 1995 to 2010 with statistics from the National Centre for Health Statistics. Notably, pers...
