Unlike most countries around the world where the disparity in the quality of education provided is huge, Japan offers equal educational opportunities for both the rich and poor students. This is as a result of the immense governmental support that the Japanese education system gets. Rather than being hired by individual schools, teachers are hired by prefectures. Both the national and prefecture governments are responsible for paying the teachers. This eliminates disparities in pay. The equality in education despite the lower spending on education in Japan as compared to other countries can be attributed to the emphasis put on the competence and well-being of the teachers. Tracking of gifted students is also non-existent, which means that the sharp students are required to help the struggling students. However, the equality is majorly in the elementary schools and diminishes as one goes up the educational ladder.
