Individuals exposed to the mass fatalities incidents tend to experience psychological dysfunction, and a high percentage of these persons need help so that they can cope. Mass crises usually have massive impacts on the survivors of the incidents. Various studies show that there is always a psychological impairment in the aftermath of a disaster such as stress symptoms and posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety disorders. The characteristics of a disaster mainly involve exposure severity, the injuries that are incurred and maybe the death of a family member or friends during the disaster event which leads to physiological distress, depression, and stress (Kai-lit, 2015). Following a traumatic event individuals can experience intrusive thoughts of the traumatic events and may even lack sleep. The symptoms are the body reaction towards a highly stressful event. The phases that the survivor experience includes the pre-impact phase and the post-disaster phase. In the pre-impact phase, there is the consolidation phase where is the period where the disaster is threatening, and the warning phase where the disaster is considered to be imminent and warnings have been announced (Alexander, 2015). The post-disaster phase includes the consolidation phase where is the time the persons that experienced the disaster are taking stock of the situation.
