Introduction
The juvenile justice system is integrating diverse measures to ensure positive community progress and prevent rather unnecessary incarcerations. Evidence-based practices constitute some of the more appropriate methods being integrated into this system considering the treatment of youths is becoming a hotly contested debate in modern times (Elrod & Ryder, 2020). This position in the debate waging between punishment orientation and rehabilitation. Bearing this in mind, it is necessary to consider the type of crimes that the youths are likely to commit so that the necessary countermeasures can be established. In these circumstances, most youths are prone to substance abuse considering their curiosity and peer pressure. Having highlighted the source of the problem, the next procedure would be to articulate the most appropriate evidence-based practice community program. Community Trials Intervention to Reduce High-Risk Drinking (RHRD), community mobilization, and sober support groups have been identified as very effective community programs to help minimize the prevalence of substance abuse among youths.
Community Trials Intervention to Reduce High-Risk Drinking (RHRD)
RHRD is a universal intervention gaining more applications because of use in various platforms. Its predominance arises because it alters community-wide alcohol use trends including but not limited to binge drinking, underage drinking, and drinking and driving (Griffin & Botvin, 2010). RHRD incorporates a couple of environmental intervention strategies, which help in preventing access to alcohol for minors, increasing community awareness, as well as enforcing laws regarding alcohol use and sales. The National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Policies (NREPP) gave the intervention of 2.8/4.0 relative to its readiness for dissemination. The intervention has five components with first being that reduction in alcohol access. This first component is achieved through both zoning and municipal regulations in controlling the density of liquor stores as well as bars. Responsible beverage service is the second component where the servers and retailers who help in establishing regulations to ensure the youth do not get access to alcohol. The third component is law enforcement. Training alcohol retailers is the fourth component and helps in ensuring minors do not have access to alcohol. Finally, communities are great players in this process as they are equipped with the tools to support these interventions. It is only reasonable to incorporate them so that they can seek the best intervention relative to the event. Therefore, the success of RHRD is predicated on very many stakeholders.
