The criminal trial process has many components. In this assignment, you explore real-life examples of the criminal trial process in two different types of trials.

Search the Internet for trials using parameters such as but not limited to “watch criminal trials online,” or visit the Wild About Trial website.

Compare TWO (2) trials. If possible, compare a murder trial with one involving another major felony. Include the parties represented in each trial (i.e., plaintiff and defendant).

Write 350- to 700-word comparison in which you:
Summarize what each trial was about.
Identify the type of court the trials were held in (refer to Ch. 1 for types of courts in the United States).
Describe as many of the steps of each trial as you can (refer to Ch. 13 for the steps/process).
Explain the similarities and differences between the two trials you selected.
Identify as many of the actors of each trial as you can who played a role in the steps of the trial process. What were their roles?

Cite a minimum of 2 sources (one source for each trial).

Understanding the intricacies of the criminal justice system is important for any law practitioner. His familiarity with the process allows him to improve his efficiency and effectivity by focusing on the more substantial issues in his cases. In this article, the author would focus on two examples of criminal cases and the specific processes that are included in both of them. On the one hand, this includes the case against Lev Aslan Dermen, who was charged with a “$511 million tax credit scheme” together with other executives of a “Salt Lake City biodiesel company”. On the other hand, the other case involves the Hollywood celebrity Katy Perry who was charged with copyright infringement for her song ‘Dark Horse’. All in all, the author believes that a comparison between different examples of the trial process would help in improving one’s future practice.
The Criminal Cases
As stated earlier, the first criminal case for the tax credit scheme was filed against the executives of a Salt Lake biodiesel company. The charges were brought upon by the prosecutors in Davis county, claiming that the respondents were involved in 10 counts tax fraud where they created fake production records, thereby getting “renewable fuel tax-credits from the years 2010 to 2006” CITATION McCnd \l 1033 (McCombs, 2020). Since there were several respondents, in this case, all represented with different counsels, some of the respondents who pleaded guilty were offered a plea deal. However, since Dermen pleaded not guilty, the plea offer for the others involve reducing their sentences after they testify against him.
