These laws and regulations are clearly outlined in the constitution together with the consequences and penalties of breaking those rules and regulations. To enforce law and order in a country, a special well organized civil enforcement body is established to ensure both compulsory and voluntary compliance of the rule of law known as the Police (Tyler, 2011). Policing is the activities that are undertaken by law enforcement bodies or the community of the country with the ultimate goal of making the rule of law to be upheld preserved at all time. In the recent past, policing is being considered as a collective duty that every citizen should be involved in rather than as a police specific work. Responsibility is with time shifting from being all on the shoulders of the police officers and balancing on the community and the police officers and thus creating a harmony between the police work and the recipient of the police services – the community (Tyler, 2011). This essay will focus in depth on modern trends and practices in policing that are of interest. Predictive policing and Gunshot location systems are the trends that will be described and discussed as the future of policing. Predictive policing is the scientific forecasting and mathematical predictive analysis models to help the police forces to enforce law and order. Predictive policing is modern trend in the practices in the police forces in almost every country in the world that aims at stopping the illegal activities and crimes before they even start by identifying a potential criminal or malicious person or activity. The policing technique uses several methods that when used together predicts crimes at different levels in the society. The categories are as follows: crime predicting technique, offenders predicting techniques, perpetrators predicting techniques, and victims of criminal activities predicting techniques. These methods are when used in the law enforcement forces like policing, can help in curbing any criminal activity that is scheduled to happen by the perpetrators. Use of technology is very crucial and essential in the predictive policing as the predicting activities need to be digitized and modernized so that it can provide both reliable and timely intelligent report to be used to enforce the law and prevent criminal activities before they even happen. Use of sophisticated software that is able to take the huge amount of input variables and scientifically analyze the data to provide an indication of possible criminal threat is currently being used in the developed countries. The behavior and movements patterns of each citizen when the public is the aim of predictive policing so that crimes can be detected before they even happen.
