Understanding the justice systems of various states is essential for the continuous improvement of one’s system. It allows for the integration of good practices, especially those deemed culturally, politically, and economically feasible for one’s state. In this article, a comparison between the justice system of the United States, Germany, and Japan will be discussed.
On the one hand, some of the American justice law systems are; (1) the focus on oral arguments and juries, and (2) the number of available attorneys. First, the American justice system has always given importance to the employment of juries and a focus on oral arguments. This is not present in both Japanese and German justice systems. Although this is indeed costlier compared to non-jury trials, this also helps reduce “racial bias,” which is highly present in the United States CITATION Equ21 \l 1033 (Equal Justice Initiative, 2021).
