Dr. Banting and his assistant Charles Best’s discovery of insulin offered the basis of explaining the metabolic role of insulin on carbohydrates, addressing the diabetes menace and its fatal nature. The establishment of the insulin committee was crucial to govern future patent issues, human trials, scale-up, manufacturing, gratuity, and most importantly, shun exploitation and fraud.
