As the state director of a human services department, the governor has tasked me with creating a policy proposal to reform child protective services. I would use design thinking to prioritize the human element and understand the people involved. This approach looks beyond efficiency and technology to ensure the policy meets the real issues of service providers and the community.
Understanding User Needs Beyond Efficiency
I would emphasize a shift in viewpoint beyond technology and efficiency. First, analyze the needs and preferences of users, child protection services professionals, and system families. This requires communicating with social workers, lawyers, child psychologists, and, most critically, child protective services families.
