Introduction
Trisomy 21 is also known as Down’s syndrome. It is genetic and occurs when there is an extra copy of chromosome 21 (Tiwari et al., 2020). Children diagnosed with the condition suffer from heart defects such as Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO). PFO is a small opening in the wall between the atria. This paper will focus on a 14-month-old child diagnosed with PFO and Trisomy 21. It will address the diagnosis, developmental achievement, and prognosis.
Diagnosis
Diagnosing Trisomy 21 can be done after a child is born through a procedure referred to as a chromosomal analysis. The procedure examines whether there is an extra chromosome 21 (Tiwari et al., 2020). On the other hand, diagnosing PFO is done through an echocardiogram (Kheiwa et al., 2020). During the test, the professional will check to see the opening in the wall between the atria.
