1 Why the US join World War I
The government used propaganda to get public support on going to war. They used the media to advertise for war and prompt the people to be drafted to serve the country. The message was designed to show patriotism to those who drafted and cowardice to those who did not enlist to join the military.
Information was suppressed on the home front to avoid public dissent. The sinking of the Lisutania ship with American crew on board was used as a propaganda tool to mobilize the people to declare and support the war.
Though the president Wilson was opposed to the war, the Zimmerman telegram that was intercepted detailing how Germany was encouraging Mexico to declare war on United States tipped the home front to push the government to declare war on Germany.
