The Gilded Age is the term used to describe the tumultuous years between the Civil War and the turn of the twentieth century. During this era, America became more prosperous and saw unprecedented growth in industry and technology. But the Gilded Age had a more sinister side: It was a period where greedy, corrupt industrialists, bankers, and politicians enjoyed extraordinary wealth and opulence at the expense of the working class. One reason why the Gilded Age was positive for America is that it brought about industrialization. During the Gilded Age, America transformed from a mostly agricultural nation and into an industrialized country. The second reason is that it led to remarkable inventions that include the telephone, the horseless carriage, and the light bulb. The third reason is that it strengthened the country's two parties; the Republicans and the Democrats. Through the establishment of the populist party, Democrats were able to identify that Americans wanted more liberal reforms.
