The U.S. and The Axis Alliance
For the better part of the 1930s, the United States strongly embraced the neutrality policy spearheaded by the U.S. Congress. The Neutrality Act prohibited the U.S. from any kind of involvement in foreign wars, including the sale of weapons and ammunition to the war-prone European and Asian nations (nps.gov, n.d.). Despite the widespread isolationism across the U.S. championed by Congress, President Franklin D. Rosevelt had a divergent view of America's involvement in international affairs (Doenecke, 2017). He went ahead to push for America's involvement in international affairs and managed to circumvent the isolationism policies through numerous executive orders. In 1941, FDR's effort for internationalism had paid off, and the U.S. entered World War II following an attack on Pearl Harbour by the Japanese. The U.S. fought the Japanese with far more aggressiveness than any other Asian or European foe, and the bombing of Japan's major cities being the epitome of the Second World War. The U.S. had a much more sophisticated army and weapons that played a significant role in the success of the Allied powers over the Axis powers (openstax, 2019).
