The Great Cultural Revolution witnessed in China was a decade of political and social process aimed at reasserting control over the communist party. The movie "To live" by Zhang Yimou depict such power presenting Xu Fugui's family during the heady days of gambling in 1940 to the severe hardship his family faced during the cultural revolution in 1960. The author presents an insight of what it was like to live during such times (Doll, 2014).
The movie presents the suffering and depression during the Cultural Revolution.
