For this discussion, review your readings for Unit 4. Afterward, prepare a statement based on your readings and unit sources answering the following question: Why did the British North American colonies shift from primarily European indentured servitude to enslaved African labor?
To do this, adopt the role of ONE of the following individuals and explain who that person was and how that person viewed the institution of slavery.

My name is Peter Adamson, one of Richmond, Virginia's prominent tobacco plantation owners. In order to maximize profits and ensure that there was a consistent supply of labor, I supported the idea of having enslaved Africans instead of indentured servants. Indentured servitude was based on the need for cheap labor. This is because plantation owners had vast lands to look after. There was minimal available labor to care for the vast lands, hence the demand for cheap labor from Europe. Most of the people who came to America as immigrants arrived as indentured servants.
