Discussing at least two assigned primary sources, what can you say about the relationship between the Union and the Confederacy? Use at least two examples.
Based on the assigned primary sources, the relationship between the Union and the Confederacy can be largely described as frosty. The Confederacy felt that the Union were taking all possible measures to limit their freedom and agitate for equal rights for slaves. The frosty nature of the relationship is evident from the letters exchanged between Governor Ames of Mississippi and Blanche Butler Ames on the state of Mississippi where the Unionist and confederacy members were fighting for electoral control of the State. From the letters, there are detail of violence between the two parties. The Governor reports that Confederates were killing black men and explores the likelihood of support from the government to contain them.
In addition to the letters, the clipping from Mississippi Press about the election of 1875. In one of the press posting, the writer claims that he did not intend to follow the order passed by the Governor proclaiming that military companies in the state ought to be disbanded. The positing was in the Yazoo City Herald. It is an indication of the frosty relationship between the Union and the Confederacy given that the Southerners saw Governor Ames as a Unionist.
