Slavery was a major issue in the 18th century in the United States of America. It majorly involved African Americans working for the whites, where the African Americans were the enslaved while the whites were the masters. In slavery, enslaved people were mistreated as they worked for longer hours on plantations, and there were harsh weather conditions. Other enslaved people were not paid, while others were subjected to brutal punishment. It resulted in debates where whites were against slavery while some were pro-slavery (Sudo, 2021). Citizens who were pro-slavery argued by justifying the reasons why slavery was important and should continue in the United States of America. Among the men who were pro-slavery included George Fitzhugh and James Henry Hammond. These men advocated for slavery in their region and the entire American nation.
