The Transformation of US Agriculture: A Mosaic of Racial and Ethnic Experiences
Farming in the US has been changing quickly and is still changing, and this change has a lot to do with how many racial and ethnic groups live their lives. This essay examines how African Americans, Asian Americans, and Anglo-Americans (Caucasians) have changed life in rural US. Because of my life and experiences, I will have a unique view on this subject.
African Americans in the US agriculture
US farmers have employed African Americans since slavery, and initially, they have worked on farms growing rice, tobacco, and cotton (Smith, 2021). Despite poor working conditions and few job opportunities, many African Americans worked as sharecroppers or tenant farmers after the Civil War and slavery ended. In the "Great Migration," African Americans moved to northern towns in the 1900s as this mass movement reduced their rural prevalence. The African Americans' farms' ownership and interest in urban and environmentally friendly farming show that they remain connected to farming.
My perspective on African Americans' strength and contributions to American society is that African Americans suffered from slavery, segregation, and racism. The past has seen many terrible wrongs and triumphs over hardship. As the Civil Rights Movement showed, people have always wanted fairness and equality. The world is aware of the ongoing civil rights and anti-racism fights. African Americans' art, music, writing, politics, and farming have left indelible marks on American society. Because of how I see things, I want to be a friend and fight for social justice, racial equality, and fair chances in all areas of life, including farming.
Asian Americans in US Agriculture
Asian Americans have helped US agriculture, particularly on the West Coast, and their farm work demonstrated their strength and determination. Chinese immigrants helped construct the Transcontinental Railroad and migrated to rural areas as numerous Japanese Americans in California farmed fruits and vegetables (Kijakazi et al., 2019). Japanese Americans were forced into camps during World War II and lost their land and possessions. After the war, many returned to farming and helped California's specialty crop industry expand.
I appreciate strong, goal-oriented Asian Americans open to diverse cultures and Japanese Americans because they were unfairly detained during World War II. At the same time, early Chinese arrivals faced prejudice and hardship. Asian Americans have excelled in commerce, technology, education, and agriculture despite these difficulties, whereby Asian Americans' diverse cultures and habits have improved American civilization. Accepting diversity and promoting inclusivity is essential as Asian Americans teach the world how to be strong by working together, being proud of their culture, and pursuing the American dream.
Caucasians (Anglo-Americans) in US Agriculture
Anglo-Americans, or Caucasians, have long-run US farmland. These individuals were from Europe and were among the initial settlers who established agricultural villages in ...
