Emancipation Proclamation
In a quest to get as many men as possible into the US army, Abraham Lincoln would embark on one of the landmark proclamation for freedom directed at the slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation, took place in the year 1863 on January 1st (The American Battlefield Trust, 2018). This was an effort to get all the southern states and the lands that were still under the confederate rule to give the slaves freedom allowing them to join the US military. It can be viewed as one of the efforts that would later on bring about the freedom of the slaves. However, it is important to understand that, much of the efforts that were put into getting the slaves their freedom through the proclamation were geared towards the American Civil War (The American Battlefield Trust, 2018). As a way to bring down the confederate government influence Lincoln using his powers as the commander of the armed forces gave the executive order. As such, it is not a proclamation that came through the congress. At same time, this did not provide for the compensation of the slave owners, nor did it give the slaves citizenship; it simply stated that they were free and could now join the war efforts against the confederate gov...
