Darwinian Evolutionary Theory
Introduction
The Darwinian Evolutionary Theory lays the foundation of scientific and humanist thought as it made man, the most intelligent life form, become aware of the origins of species through the process of evolution. Charles Darwin is accredited as the central figure in the development of these ideas through his theory of evolution by natural selection in his 1859 publication, "On the Origin of Species," and the scientific community has since accepted the theory as the best explanation of how life first appeared on the planet Earth. Gefaell et al. (2020) describe the theory as one of the highest scientific feats in the intellectual history of man. While the theory has remained a strong evidence-based explanation, as most other scientific theories do, some still show a strong opposition or reluctance to accept Darwin's facts almost 200 years ago (Gefaell et al., 2020). From business to medical sciences in drug development, Darwin’s Evolutionary theory has found increasing applications in today’s society, which points to the importance of understanding the theory. This paper discusses the importance of understanding Darwinian Evolutionary Theory and provides examples of how deliberate pervasion of the logic has impacted underrepresented communities such as the Indigenous Americans and other minority groups around the world.
Importance of Understanding Darwinian Evolutionary Theory
The Darwinian Evolutionary Theory has many applications ranging from medical science and business applications in today's society, and it is critical to understand the concepts in theory, to put them into practical use. Concepts in theory such as natural selection have enabled humans to dissect human genes and predict the severities or the occurrence of human diseases. For instance, Vasseur and Quintana-Murci (2013) have discussed examples of biological functions derived from specific genes that proffer organisms stronger pathogenic, climatic, and dietary selection pressures. Through the ideas of natural selection, scientists can design better drugs against pathogens and address the common problem in disease treatment, such as resistance. In social science, evolutionary theory has been employed as a model to appreciate organizational changes and has made this understanding make businesses more sustainable. Ferreira et al. (2016) have used the ideas in theory to analyze various aspects that are related to organizational changes. According to Ferreira et al. (2016), the theory serves as the best alternative to the Ecology of Organizational Po...
