Dissecting a topic through historical lenses helps in the understanding of the underlying factors and the connectedness. It is easier to withhold blame if all factors are studied. By finding the source of events is how solutions to upcoming and existing challenges can be found.


My Topic

Apartheid in South Africa.
The apartheid regime was ushered into South Africa when the Afrikans party won general elections in 1948. The occupation of the presidency allowed it to institutionalize apartheid, which was built from the word 'Apartness.' It lasted until 1990.


Three Historical Lenses

Political lens
Economic lens
Social lens
It is essential to analyze apartheid through the three lenses to understand the source. South African lives were negatively affected in the three aspects; hence it is essential also to understand how each aspect was tackled.


Lens 1

Political lens
The South African constitution was changed to favor the white minority. They had more political rights and freedoms that the blacks. Most politicians were imprisoned, and movements started in prison led by Nelson Mandela.


Lens 2

Economic lens
White people were majority business owners, and they dictated the wages to pay their black workers. Black business owners paid heavy taxes and operated in specific zones among poor neighborhoods. Part of the problems that people faced were poor pay and inhuman working conditions.
