Workplace Environment Assessment
Summary of Results - Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory The workplace civility score for the completed assessment was 55. This score indicates that the workplace is unhealthy (Clark, 2015). Specifically, the results revealed that there is a lack of a clear level of trust among leaders and other members of staff. Also, the results revealed a lack of a transparent and respectful method of communication within the organization. Besides, the results indicated that teamwork and collaboration among members of the organization were minimal. Employees were also not treated respectfully, nor were their input greatly valued within the organization. Due to the organizational culture which puts little emphasis on trust, respect, and collaboration, employees experienced low levels of engagement, satisfaction, and morale. Also, the results established that most of the employees would not encourage their family and friends to join the organization, nor would they recommend them if there was an open position. The result also revealed that employees are hardly involved in the decision-making process or policy development.Identify two things that surprised you about the results. Also identify one idea that you believed prior to conducting the Assessment that was confirmed. What I found to be most surprising about the results is that even though the organization places a very strong emphasis on self-care and wellness among employees, this has done very little to promote a healthy workplace. Also, the organization seems to do fairly well in providing opportunities for career development and professional growth. Yet, the result revealed a generally unhealthy workplace environment. I found this surprising because I realized that when looking for an organization to work for, these were some of the things I considered and I had always thought that as long as they are present, then the work environment would be fairly healthy.
Even before conducting the assessment, I always believed that having effective organizational leadership that is built on trust and respect is crucial in promoting a safe work environment. I believed that leaders were primarily responsible for creating a culture that encourages collaboration and free expression of differing opinions. The results of the assessment confirmed this belief because trust and respect lacked both in leadership and communication channels. What do the results of the Assessment suggest about the health and civility of your workplace? The results suggest that a lot needs to be done to promote a healthy work environment. Focusing on improving certain aspects, such as employee self-care, while neglecting other aspects, such as leaders transparency, will not help address the unhealthy workplace and incivility. The results also suggest that improving workplace health and civility will require input from bo...
