Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize the student with the most recent guidelines and recommendations for vaccine -preventable illnesses in the United States.
Activity Learning Outcomes
Through this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:
Identify vaccines available in the US market for vaccine-preventable disease and describe their features (CO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6).
Identify contraindications and precautions for the use of vaccines available (CO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6).
Use recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) to identify target groups for receipt of each vaccine (CO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6).
Due Date:
Assignment should be submitted to the Week 5 Immunization Assignment dropbox by Sunday 11:59 p.m. MST at the end of Week 5. When the assignment is placed in the dropbox, it will automatically be submitted to Turnitin. You may submit the assignment one additional time before the due date to lower the Turnitin score. If you choose to resubmit, the second submission will be considered final and subject to grading. Once the due date for the assignment passes, you may not resubmit to lower a Turnitin score.

This assignment will follow the late assignment policy specified in the course syllabus.
Students are expected to submit assignments by the time they are due. Assignments submitted after the due date and time will receive a deduction of 10% of the total points possible for that assignment for each day the assignment is late. Assignments will be accepted, with penalty as described, up to a maximum of three days late, after which point a zero will be recorded for the assignment.
In the event of a situation that prevents timely submission of an assignment, students may petition their instructor for a waiver of the late submission grade reduction. The instructor will review the student's rationale for the request and make a determination based on the merits of the student's appeal. Consideration of the student's total course performance to date will be a contributing factor in the determination. Students should continue to attend class, actively participate, and complete other assignments while the appeal is pending.

Descriptions of the nurse practitioners' roles concerning the implementation of the vaccines' procedures are also incorporated herein. Live Influenza Vaccine (LAIV)
LAIV is a vaccine meant to vaccinate against Influenza causing viruses. The disease is called the flu or the common cold. The vaccine is called FluMist Quadrivalent in medical or trade name as shown by Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (2021). The name quadrivalent is derived from the four building viruses used to create the vaccine. Typically the first two parts of Quadrivalent are called the H1N1 and H3N2. LAIV is an attenuated vaccine for its modification relies on repeated reduction in the viral infections of the previous vaccines. Children below two years with severe asthmatic conditions have contraindication effects of getting the vaccine. Equally, underlying diseases such as cancer, hypertension, and kidney and other organ failures are advised for precautions before taking the vaccine. Age factor is also a significant consideration as vaccination should be from children above five years when vaccination is required.
The adverse drug reactions are for vaccination of LAIV include headache, joint pains, ever sore throat, among many others. The listed side effects are predominant among children whose immune systems are developing. Besides, the minimum age for vaccination against Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine is five years. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. (2021) also discusses that there are other vaccines for inactivated influenza vaccines that best serve children less than six months. The interval for the administration of LAIV dosage is after for weeks. The timeline for the dosage is guaranteed for periods serving as exceptions for extreme cases like sudden sickness.
Rotavirus Vaccine (RotaTeq RV5)
Rotavirus vaccine is used to treat a disease known as rotavirus disease. The condition is positively associated with diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain in children. Its trade name is Rota Teq (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). It is an attenuated live human vaccine.
