Patients who have undergone total knee athroplasty can develop post operative infection before recovery, including Deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Using heparin in the orthopedics surgeon office has the potential to prevent DVT. Thus, nurses need to understand how low weight heparin helps to prevent DVT. Throembolism is likely to occur for patients when there is no prophylaxis. Even though, there is no agreement on the best procedure to prevent infection having prophylaxis helps to reduce the risk of DVT. The orthopedic surgery office is appropriate for one to observe whether the intervention is beneficial by comparing results for different total knee replacement patients. Ideally nurses in primary care need to evaluate social, psychological and physical preparation before hospital admission, as this helps to prioritize on planning for identified needs (Walker, 2012).
In patients with total knee replacement, surgery helps to remove knee joint and hence reduce progressive pain in the knees followed up by replacement with artificial material.
According to Jeffery et al (2011), there are risks in this procedure, as there can be blood clots that can cause pulmonary embolism, nausea, nerve damage. Blood vessel injury, knee bleeding and knee damage. The objectives of treating DVT are to prevent pulmonary embolism, minimize risk of postphlebitic syndrome and reduce morbidity (Schreiber& Brenner, 2013). Physicians mostly rely on anticoagulants to treat DVT, with such treatments reducing the chance of blot clotting following total knee replacement.
The condition has a direct impact on the work environment as the medical staff understands the importance of movement and medication to influence the condition after total knee surgery. There is a need for more check ups for the patients to ensure that they do not develop blood clots ...
