A literature review reveals several themes related to the PICOT question, including causes of psychological health conditions, key barriers to proper mental treatment, and the impact of increasing mental health education and wellbeing of the respective patients and the community. Research indicated that mental illness is perceived to emanate from extrinsic, intrinsic, and spiritual factors (Anjara, Brayne, & Van-Bortel, 2021). Notably, many people still cling to traditional beliefs regarding mental health problems. That said, evidence-based and culturally appropriate psycho-education is needed at grassroots levels to address mental illness (Anjara, Brayne, & Van-Bortel, 2021). This theme offers insights concerning how best mental diseases problem can be mediated. Social environment, adverse life events, stress, and physical complaints are related to mental illness. Genetics constitutes a critical risk factor for psychological illness. Depression and anxiety patients have similar manifestations in patients (Magaard, Schulz, & Brütt, 2017). This theme informs how casual beliefs about mental illness can help decide an ideal care plan.
