Concept Process Assignment 1
The selected Basic Concept ALT (fluid and electrolytes) relates to the selected Systems Disorder ALT (acute kidney failure) in that the kidney is responsible for managing electrolyte concentration in blood by matching renal excretion with water and electrolytes intake. Acute kidney failure impairs the organ’s ability to regulate the volume of body fluids as well as osmolality (Claure & Bouchard, 2012). As a consequence, excesses of water or electrolytes are not compensated for by increases in urinary excretion resulting in excessive fluid volume, also known as hypervolemia. Patients with acute kidney failure are at risk of developing excessive fluid volume in the intravascular compartment. More importantly, acute kidney failure leads to electrolyte and acid-base disturbances like hypocalcemia, hyperkalemia, hypophosphatemia, and metabolic acidosis (Molla et al., 2020). The disease causes higher potassium as well as lower phosphate and calcium levels in the blood, over and above, an increase in plasma acidity....
