The FOCUS-PDCA
The FOCUS PDCA is a healthcare management process that was created by Hospital Corporation of America, HCA. It is a systematic improvement process that uses the knowledge of how a process is prevailing to address the needs and expectations of the customers to plan and test changes in procedures. This is a model that the healthcare sector developed, but it can be used in any organization. FOCUS is an acronym that stands for different steps in improving a process; F for find, O for organize, C for clarifying, U for understanding, and S stands for select ("FOCUS PDCA | Graphic Products," n.d.; Maraiki et al., 2016)).
FIND
This step involves finding a process that needs to be improved. The problem in the process can be known or unknown. The known issues are often about meeting quality goals or very high environmental emissions, while effect analysis may disclose an initially strange problem that needs to be addressed. (Maraiki et a.,2016).
ORGANIZE
This step involves organizing a team of people who understands the process well. The unit does not have to be experts on the process in question. Instead, it should be involved in the process like those who do operations and maintenance, immediate suppliers, and consumers ("FOCUS PDCA | Graphic Products," n.d.).
