Healthcare organizations face several risks including risk to patients, staffs, and the organization. Thus, it is necessary for all health care organizations to assess, monitor, develop, and implement risk management plans aiming at minimizing exposure. In healthcare, there are several priorities including finance, general safety but the most important factor when prioritizing activities are patient care. That is why numerous efforts are geared towards developing a close working relationship among the healthcare professionals to improve on service delivery (Lynch, 2011).
Brief Summary Description
Some of the patient safety initiatives include healthcare facility posting care quality data on federal government websites for patients to use the data to choose facilities that offer quality care. Federal agencies also make it public data to other healthcare providers like home health providers and long-term care facilities. Organizations have acknowledged that poor services and failure to integrate some of the important processes within the organization’s plan can affect the organization reputation. Health care organizations are doing more to minimize risks related to patients by addressing interests of their patients. That is why developing a risk management plan is important to enhance service delivery according to Spath (2012).
The appropriate risk management plan is to continue improving patient safety and also minimize or prevent errors and system malfunction that can harm patients. It is important to be proactive by identifying, preventing, analyzing, and controlling potential risk to minimize losses to the organization. The proposed patient safety risk management program is designed to minimize unsafe condition by implementing continuous improvement strategies that support the organization safety culture. The risk management program aims at reducing system related errors by empowering leaders and management teams to maintain high-quality patient care (Sittig & Singh, 2012).
Administrative Steps and Processes
When addressing patient safety, it is important to seek support from the senior leadership of the organization. Collective decision-making process promotes a safe environment for both patients and staffs hence improving quality care, which is in line with the organization goals. It is important to assess the current activities related to patient safety and other potential risk that might affect quality care services by laying down responsibilities of each personnel to minimize duplication of services (Sittig & Singh, 2012).
Establishing an effective structure will ensure that patient care activities are coordinated well. It is also important to seek guidance to understand the federal and state laws to streamline the change process. The important process of data collection, monitoring, and evaluation, will be coordinated to ensure that the change process runs smoothly. Periodic evaluation is important to understand the dynamic needs of patient versus the services the organization offer to measure the levels of compliance (Sittig & Singh, 2012).
