With regard to the situation of Charlie, Diane Lawson suggests that the nurse manager in the hospital should take time to understand Charlie through a one-on-one chat. Diane is spot on when she points out that this face-to-face talk would give Charlie a chance to talk about his own interests and concerns and that it would allow the nurse and Charlie to develop a lasting relationship. To add to this important point that Diane has raised, face-to-face discussion with employees in the place of work is crucial given that some people are able to understand better when the manager takes them aside and chats with them about a pressing issue face-to-face (Sullivan, 2013). Diane mentions that Charlie did not get any orientation or socialization after being moved to the psychiatric unit from the paediatric unit. It is notable that employee orientation allows a worker in a new department to become acclimatized to his or new department, work unit, work expectations and colleagues, and ensures a smooth transition into the new work place (Sullivan, 2013). Diane is sagacious when she states that if there is an adolescent or paediatric population in the unit, Charlie should be placed there. However, what if there are no young people in the unit?
