Leadership Theories
There is a deep relationship that enjoins the emerging leadership theories. The underlying relationship is the fact that in all the theories that are emerging, leaders are encouraged to look beyond their interests and form relationships with their followers in a manner that will inspire quality results that are based on personal improvement and selflessness (Velasquez, 1992). In the authentic leadership style, leaders constantly work to create an enabling environment, coupled with high levels of self-awareness that inspires the followers’ actions and habits. The FRLT on the other hand encompasses the transformational leadership style that looks at inspiring followers to transform themselves and look beyond their personal interests (Heifetz, 1994). The servant style, requires leaders to be servants first before there are inspired to be leaders, while the ethical leaderships looks at the ethical and personal behavior guiding leadership. They all have a common element where they look at the aspects of the leader being the first at making the changes that they want to see in their followers; leading by example.
