Nursing is an admirable occupation in the land. Being a NICU nurse, I am proud to work with other neonatologists and nurturing the life of neonatal beings. I have an Associate of Nursing (ASN), but I have set my future aspirations in line with the Institute of Medicine (IOM) targets. IOM has recommended the following; by 2020 the number of nurses with a degree should have grown by 80%, the number of nurses with doctorate degrees should have increased by a double digit by the year 2020 and that the nurses should be engaged in lifelong learning. Having in mind these targets y the nurses training body, IOM, I have also set my targets to the help the organization achieve them and also benefit me to be competent in the market and take my practice to a new level in future.
In line with the IOM aspiration of increasing the number of nurses with degrees by 80% in the year 2020, I have enrolled for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). I intend to attend my classes through both part-time and online programs (Redman, Pressler, Furspan, & Potempa, 2015). I will be attending my practical courses in the current hospital I work in as well as the nearby hospitals. This is a hybrid program that will reduce the fours of the course to about two years meaning I will graduate before the year 2020 and contribute to the growth of 80% as anticipated by IOM (Redman, Pressler, Furspan, & Potempa, 2015).
After graduating with a BSN in the next two years, I intend to enrol immediately for a Master of Science in Nursing and aim to graduate the soonest time possible and enrol for a doctorate. This will help me in furthering my skills for practice an...
