The twenty-first-century innovations have revolutionized the lifestyles of millions of people around the world. The majority of the world population now relies on processed food products and electronic gadgets to simplify their daily activities. However, this drastic change in eating patterns and use of new machines has come with a lot of complications. For instance, many people now suffer from lifestyle diseases such as obesity, while there has been a great shortage of health practitioners especially nurses. As such, the essay highlights the reasons for the shortage of nurses, how the problem can be solved and its impact after it has been solved.
A survey conducted by Registered Nurses (RNs) identified five main reasons for the ever increased shortage of nurses. The causes included low salaries and benefits, poor working conditions, undesirable working hours, increase in career options and finally, a believe that nursing is not a rewarding career. As such, there has been a drastic decrease in the number of students enrolling in nursing schools, which reflects a decrease in the number of health workers (Buerhaus, Douglas, & David I., 2009).
