In this first segment, the leadership style of one of the Chief Nursing Officer known as Allison is discussed. According to the article, Allison’s leadership approach is depicted as transactional. In understanding these leaders’ criteria, it is critical to determine if this style of leadership is effective within a health institution.
Allison describes the transactional leader as one who follows the policies and procedures of an entity through an approach that sees the increase of the individual’s self-interest that comes along with the pursuit of personal rewards during the performance of an institutions employee, a factor that creates an emphasis on the interpersonal dependence of such a leader.
In finding some of the challenges that a medical institution was undergoing, the multidisciplinary team within the institution invited one member from every department (Sullivan, 2013). Upon the receipt of the concerns of each and every member, there was a decision by the team members to undertake measures towards finding the solutions to these challenges, with particular reference to the pharmacies policies and procedures that experienced errors.
