Through monitoring and evaluation, the organization and allied groups serve to reinforce health care quality and safety standards. As a not-for-profit and self-governing organization, TJC is responsible for appraising and accrediting almost 21,000 care programs and different other organizations countrywide (TJC, 2019). Besides TJC, other organizations such as AHQA, NCQA, and OHCQ monitor the quality of health care organizations to find ways of improving care. Some of the organizations provide accreditations and certifications to facilities and physicians who meet the minimum set standards of care, thus encouraging quality improvement in health care. This paper identifies the purpose, duties, and approaches to monitoring the quality of health care and describes the impact on the quality of care in health care organizations. American Health Quality Association (AHQA) AHQA is an educational and not-for-profit nationwide membership group whose main objective is to guarantee quality care through independent and community-based quality assessment and advancement programs (AHQA, 2019). The organization represents other organizations and care providers who exchange information with health care facilities and physicians about best practices. By collaborating with care providers nationwide, the organization recognizes opportunities and offers assistance for care improvement. The organization develops and manages quality evaluation and improvement projects for Medicaid, Medicare, purchases, and private papers. The organization also offers expertise in quality enhancement, clinical care, information management, and communication to providers and purchasers. National Committees for Quality Assurance (NCQA) NCQA collaborates with policymakers, owners, doctors, health insurance plans, and patients to increase the quality of care. The organization also offers recognition standards for patient-centered medical homes (PCMHs) apart from providing certification, accreditation, distinction and other recognition programs. The organization was established in 1990, but the organization has currently grown to recognize over 13,000 PCMHs (NCQA, 2019).NCQA identifies and recognizes health care practices based on scientific evidence and studies how effective doctors and health plans serve patients as per scientific recommendations. Above all, the organization identifies other groups, which are best run in ways that improve care and accredits them. By employing accountability, transparency, and measurement, the organization highlights the top performers and accredit health plans to improve the quality of health care. Office of Health Care Quality (OHCQ) In Maryland, OHCQ assesses and monitors the quality of care and manages 14,000 health care programs (Maryland Department of Health n.d). The organization also certifies and licenses a number of health care facilities in Maryland and employs the federal and state guidelines, which establish the minimum standards for care delivery.
