Quality Care
The concept of quality is a famous phrase in the realm of healthcare. Over the years, there has been a widespread and palpable strive and advocacy for quality healthcare services. The sphere of healthcare, like other fields, has witnessed a shift towards quality as opposed to quantity. The health outcomes, which reflect the standards of quality, constitute critical parameters that measure and define quality. Quality healthcare is a broad concept that revolves around the satisfaction of patients’ needs in terms of being accessible, affordable, safe, timely, patient-centered, equitable, and effective. Many stakeholders, including managers, are bestowed with responsibility and obligation of maintaining high standards of quality and patient safety. Different healthcare players like healthcare leaders are mandated to make policies, systems, and procedures, which nurture a healthy environment that promotes quality of care and patient safety. As a Director of Quality at Trident Hospital, I will explore the definition of quality in terms of both internal and external consumers, the role of healthcare leaders in the management of quality and patient safety, identify managerial influences on the quality, and define comparisons and contrast between Total Quality Management (TQM) or Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Six Sigma (Lean) approaches to quality improvement.

Amongst internal consumers, quality can be defined as processes of care that involve the observation of organizational functions as an embodiment of procedures and processes’ interactions, which can be addressed individually ( Aggarwal, Aeran & Rathee,2019) .understanding the definition of quality would facilitate its implementation in hospitals. External consumers of healthcare services would define quality services as those that are affordable, effective, accessible, timely, and safe. Health organizations, from an internal perspective, may view quality services like those which are profitable, has special attributes, and effective, just to mention a few. In some instances, there might be a clash on what is considered quality between the health caregivers and patients or clients. The differences that exist between both external and internal factors like availability of resources, patient cooperation, and collaboration amongst healthcare service providers, do affect the quality of health services and patient outcomes and safety. In light of this situation, supportive leadership, effective planning, proper management of processes and resources, and desirable education and training would improve the quality of health service...
