  • Identify three providers near where you live, clicking "Add to Compare" for each of the providers.

The selected health issue is septic shock— a life-threatening condition that occurs when an individual's blood pressure drops to a dangerously low level after infection, indicating an extreme body reaction to an infection (Healthline, 2021). Its symptoms include low blood pressure, dizziness, acute confusion, severe breathing problems, and lower amounts of urine (Healthline, 2021). The quality measure reviewed for this health issue includes readmission rates and the percentage of patients receiving appropriate septic shock care. Lower readmission rates and higher percentages of appropriate care indicate high-quality care.
According to Medicare.gov, 61% of 582 patients received appropriate care at St Anthony's Hospital for this condition. Hca Florida Northside Hospital recorded 60% of 182 patients with appropriate care, whereas Bayfront Health St. Petersburg recorded 38% of 182 patients (Medicare.gov, n.d.).
