Pharmacology Development and Stages Assignment
For decades, the healthcare sector has been encountering different mistakes, which has contributed to a decline in overall performance effectiveness. Healthcare practitioners have been reporting these cases of errors due to various causes. For instance, incorrect diagnosis, dose miscalculations, prescribing mistakes, poor drug administration, poor drug distribution exercises, and lack of communication are common causes of medication errors. To combat these problems, healthcare stakeholders have worked tirelessly to develop various medication safety precautions. During this process, multiple stages using electronic systems are essential to promote medication safety precautions. This paper addresses the development and stages involved during medication safety precautions using electronic systems. It also addresses the four critical data categories in gathering healthcare data and how these data pertain to the electronic medical record.
There are five stages in the safe medication process: prescribing or ordering; verifying; delivering and dispensing; administering; monitoring, and reporting. The prescription and ordering of medication is one of the contributors to some errors in medications. Here, there are cases of the wrong drug or dose that a patient can be ordered. Moreover, if pharmacists or nurses question a given order, there are chances of confrontation using aggressive behavior. The use of modern electronic systems can massively help to reduce or eliminate the errors resulting from prescribing and ordering. The computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system would enable physicians and prescribers to electronically insert medication orders, removing the importance of written orders (Doyle & McCutcheon, 2015). Also, CPOE can avoid adverse drug effects by substantially reducing the rate of errors (Gohari et al., 2021). CPOE surges the legibility and accuracy of orders of medications, prescriber optimization, and possible integration of clinical decision-making and support.
Other medication safety precautions that healthcare providers follow are transcribing, dispensing, and delivering. Sometimes, healthcare providers transcribe, dispense, and deliver medication orders for nurse administration. In some situations and environments, pharmacists have significantly studied this stage. Pharmacists can significantly intercept and prevent ordering and prescribing errors through electronic systems. Even the bible says that those individuals responsible for caring for the sick should administer the remedies effectively which are necessary. "Anybody showing generosity to poop will be repaid by Lord for his deed Proverbs," "Proverbs 19:17" (Smith, 2023). These electronic systems would help them fill the orders correctly and deliver the correct medication for the right patient. For example, using electronic bar codes on medication labels and packaging is vital in allowing the prescribers and nurses to correctly prescribe the correct medication to the intended patient and fill the orders appropriately. The nurse must enter the patient'...
