PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY IN NURSING
This paper aims to describe my personal beliefs and values and how they relate to my nursing career. Nursing is a career that is guided by various values and ethics; thus, not everybody can be a nurse. My definition of nursing is “ the desire to help and care for those in need, mostly the sick people, family, and the community at large.” As a nurse, I have the role of protecting, promoting, preventing illness and injury, facilitating healing, alleviating suffering through correct diagnosis and treatment, and lastly, advocating for proper care for individuals, families, and the community (Kim, 2015). Generally, a nurse is a caregiver who helps the patient heals using her skills and knowledge( Masters, 2015). My principles, beliefs, and values are the main drivers in my nursing career.
Growing up, I have always been part of the first aid club in my school. I have always been passionate about helping and caring for other people. Being able to care for those injured has always come with self-satisfaction, thus made me happier to choose a nursing career. My core values and beliefs as an individual are empathetic, compassion, integrity, and competent. My compassionate nature was the steering value that made me join the nursing career.
