To maintain peace and order within a civilized society, the rules of law are imposed to protect the rights of every citizen. The same goes for the medical field wherein hospitals, physicians, and even patients have their rights and liabilities. This professional code of ethics oversees the intra-professional and inter-professional relationships between members of the profession and the community (Solis, 1988). However, as much as we consider the law, we must also consider our values and beliefs. As a Christian and a health care professional, there will always be situations where these ethical policies will create conflict in addressing and justifying health care decisions.
As a part of this university, my Christian beliefs are grounded and based on its “Statement on the Integration of Faith and Work”. May it be through talent, skills, or any resources, I believe that every person has their ways to contribute for the greater good of the community and that we have our ways of promoting improvement in everyone’s lives. This call also extends to our workplace, giving hope to patients and creating a just environment for everyone. Nonetheless, as health care professionals, we are bound to situations where we will be tested on how we will integrate faith in our work.
Every country has its own culture and traditions where the social norms and values are strictly adhered to. Rather than learning it by book, personal experiences with different cultures and traditions have contributed to my existing values and beliefs. Every person is unique because we grew up in a different environment and practiced different customs. This is the reason why one must learn how to respect each other. I believe that respect begets respect, you must work hard for it to earn it.
